Harking back to an era when all music was live, and much of it happened in the home, Visiting Music Angels is recreating the intimacy of house concerts. In the “old days,” music was a family affair. Friends and family gathered in the parlor and joyfully made music, playing and singing everyone’s favorite songs, and the latest musical “hits.” There was a sense of community and belonging, with music at the heart of it all.

Nowadays, this is all but forgotten.

But here in Grand Junction, we endeavor to recreate the

ambiance and intimacy of house concerts.

Step back in time and settle in your favorite easy chair as the musicians tune their instruments. Relax, perhaps even close your eyes as the music washes over you. Perhaps you are with family and friends, or simply enjoying a private, intimate concert just for you. We welcome you to join in creating community with our musicians in an old-fashioned setting where great music and warm hospitality come together.

Our Story

On a lazy Easter weekend in snowy Minnesota, a promise was kept. Co-founder Kathryn Mientka Farruggia, concert pianist, was visiting her house-bound, elderly parents and, as she always did, was playing a concert for them in their living room. Her ailing parents had not left the house in five years, and on every visit Kathryn brought them her gift of music. She has precious memories of those two dear people, settled comfortably in their easy chairs, eyes mostly closed. As Kathryn finished playing, her mother (who was suffering from dementia) sat bolt upright and said enthusiastically, “Kathryn! This music is so beautiful! You must play it for dead people!” Kathryn’s father, quite shocked, turned to his wife with surprised eyes. She continued, “You must play this music for people who have lost a loved one, and are grieving, or are stuck at home and lonely, the music is so comforting.” And so Kathryn promised to see what she could do.

And so, in December of 2025, Visiting Music Angels will premiere

their house concerts in Grand Junction.
